The Jungle Book (2016)

Synopsis

Mowgli, a young boy, is raised by wolves whose friends include a bear named Baloo and a panther by the name of Bagheera. The boy also faces adversaries and has to fight Shere Khan, a mean tiger. Directed by Jon Favreau, this movie stars Scarlett Johansson, Lupita Nyong`o and Idris Elba.

The man-cub Mowgli flees the jungle after a threat from the tiger Shere Khan. Guided by Bagheera the panther and the bear Baloo, Mowgli embarks on a journey of self-discovery, though he also meets creatures who don't have his best interests at heart.

Directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man), based on Rudyard Kipling's timeless stories and inspired by Disney's classic animated film, The Jungle Book is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who's been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he's ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don't exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johansson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower.

  1. This movie is produce by the director of Iron Man who brings the adventure to life.

The overall plot of the film stays very faithful to the original film with changes here and there that are both better and worse, but it's what you expect from these adaptations. They got you invested into these completely CGI animals and you understand their emotions and relationships with each other as if it is done with performance capture. They conveyed themes of love and fear in the characters really well, and it really is those two themes that drive the plot and character development of the film forward.

  2. The Jungle Book is well-made and deserves recognition as one of the year's best family offerings thus far.

  3. Most of the real world challenges that Leo DiCaprio faced in The Revenant, 10-year-old Neel Sethi faces plenty persuasively in The Jungle Book's digitized world.

  4. Somehow Favreau has created a fresh, vibrant new version of the same story, one that is wonderfully emotional and stunningly beautiful.

  5. This is probably the best movie remake ever. The graphics and story are amazing. Everybody should see it. There are a few fighting and scary scenes, but if your kids can handle The Lion King, they can handle this movie.
