Synopsis
In this sequel to 2008's Cloverfield, a young woman awakes
after a car accident to find herself locked in a comfortable, but isolated
bunker with two men, allegedly protecting them from something terrible outside.
A young woman wakes up after a terrible accident to find that
she's locked in a cellar with a doomsday prepper, who insists that he saved her
life and that the world outside is uninhabitable following an apocalyptic
catastrophe. Uncertain what to believe, the woman soon determines that she must
escape at any cost.
The ridiculous attempt to tie it in to a completely unrelated movie undermined the entire film. As a self-contained story, it would have been fine, albeit a little thin.
ReplyDeleteI feel like the movie would've been so much better without the Cloverfield tie-in. If it was just Howard alluding to what’s going on outside and the audience doesn't know and it could go this way it could go that way, but with the Cloverfield tie-in you knew from the get go that Howard was right about something going on outside and then the ending completely throws everything for a loop.
ReplyDelete10 Cloverfield Lane alternates moods seamlessly, ratcheting tension to the breaking point and then deflating it with black humor.
ReplyDeleteAn unexpected blend of apocalyptic science-fiction and serial killer styles, it is, for once, completely impossible to guess how the story will resolve.
ReplyDeleteUntil its final ten minutes, this is a dazzling, absorbing, sometimes unbearably tense thriller, an efficient and precise three-hander that rarely takes a false step.
