Ratchet and Clank (2016)

Synopsis

The Solana Galaxy is in a state of panic! Three planets have been destroyed under mysterious circumstances. But is the destruction being caused by natural phenomenon? Ratchet & Clank, two unlikely heroes, must stop a vile alien named Chairman Drek from destroying every planet in the Solana Galaxy. Ratchet is the last of his kind – a foolhardy “lombax” who has grown up alone on the backwater planet with no family of his own. Clank is a pint-sized robot with more brains than brawn. When the two stumble upon a dangerous weapon capable of destroying entire planets, they must join forces with a team of colourful heroes called The Galactic Rangers in order to save the galaxy. Glactic Ranger included Captain Qwark, Cora, Elaris and Brax, Qwark leads Ratchet and the other rangers in a raid on Drek’s robot factory on a mission to apprehend the villain. They manage to arrest Dr. Nefarious, Drek’s chief scientist. Dr. Nefarious reveals Drek’s secret weapon, the Deplanitizer. Clank grows wary of Qwark, who seems to be jealous of Ratchet’s celebrity status. Sure enough, Qwark sabotages the mission, resulting in the loss of the planet Novalis. Dr. Nefarious escapes. All seems lost. Ratchet exiles himself on a distant planet. How are they going to win the fight without the team?

Along the way they'll learn about heroism, friendship, and the importance of discovering one's own identity.

The film and game also share some of the same actors. While the movie boasts big names like Rosario Dawson, John Goodman, and Sylvester Stallone, the titular duo is voiced by James Arnold Taylor and David Kaye, the same pair fans will recognize from the games.

  1. The movie tells the story of Ratchet, a plucky young Lombax who think an adorable space raccoon...thingy, and who yearns to leave behind his life as a mechanic on a backwater planet and become a Galactic Ranger, just like his hero Captain Qwark. Along the way, he befriends a cute little robot named Clank, finds himself at the heart of an interstellar conspiracy, and ultimately tasked with going through the classic hero’s journey. The idea of an optimistic farm-boy who yearns to meet his hero and ultimately find his place in the vast universe isn’t wholly original.

  2. Ratchet and Clank is not a bad movie by any means, especially when compared to some of the downright-terrible video game adaptations of the past two decades. But given the humor, action, and sense of adventure of the games, the movie is ultimately a competent, shallow, disappointing take on the adventures of the plucky Lombax and his robot buddy.

  3. Ratchet and Clank barely had any real interactions in the movie, and most of the weapons used weren't being used by Ratchet. Ratchet only used his wrench once! The movie was almost more about Qwark than Ratchet and Clank.

İf you went to this movie without playing the game the film would be awful. But with playing the game the movie is good.

  4. When the galaxy comes under the threat of a nefarious space captain, a mechanic and his newfound robot ally join an elite squad of combatants to save the universe. This film is truly a film for the fans but is also a great film for everyone. Even if you have never played the video games, this film will still be easy to watch.

Even though there were many jokes, the only main bad side to this film was that it was lacking the innuendos which made it so famous in its original trilogy.

  5. Ratchet and Clank are back stronger than ever with its first release for PS4. The have action and fun in a visual and constant show.

Amazing game, graphics are really beautiful and game-play is fun, having a nice challenge in hard difficulty, I hope they make new games now. Nice work!

  6. This remake makes us relive the old days in an excellent new look. There are a lot of new gadgets, guns and gameplay elements to keep the adventure fresh. It is a bit odd how the main characters do not really seem to have a lot of chemistry though.

The best feature of a Ratchet and Clank game is always the weapons, and this latest is no exception. It’s a straightforward third-person shooter with cartoon violence that encourages a “strafe and shoot” approach, but it’s significantly elevated by the variety of tools on offer. Weapons like the Sheepinator and Mr Zurkon are familiar fan favourites, while the Pixeliser, which transforms enemies into low-res versions of themselves, is new.

  7. Ratchet and Clank has moments of humor, but is undercut by a generic story and thin characters that fail to leave a meaningful impact.

Young gamers might not mind all the competing colours and sounds, but their parents might need a stiff drink in a dark room afterwards.
