Ben-Hur, the book, is subtitled “A Tale of the Christ,” and as a movie in both silent and color versions, was the kind of movie Hollywood really doesn’t make any more. A biblical epic removed from the difficulty of having to find a feature-length story in the Bible that is acceptable for overall family, it was essentially a chariot race action movie with a Christian uplift theme for its hero.
ReplyDeleteBen-Hur is primarily a religious text, and religion is starting to become adaptable again in big budget Hollywood, though not without its critics.
